Meet our NPQ Facilitators:
Guy Shears - Executive Principal (CEO) - Facilitator on NPQ Executive Leadership
Guy is Chief Executive officer of the Central Region Schools Trust, additionally, having been a successful Headteacher in two secondary schools. He has a strong commitment to opportunity for all and significant expertise in school improvement. Prior to becoming CEO, Guy was Principal at Arrow Vale school 2011- 2017 (Ofsted outstanding 2014, 2018); additionally, he is an approved DfE Pupil Premium Reviewer, former Ofsted Inspector. Guy possesses a wealth of experience and specialisms including executive leadership and management, quality assurance, all aspects of school improvement, multi-academy trust and governance, Ofsted preparation, performance management & accountability, middle & senior leadership development, teaching and learning Strategy, and data analysis.
Sarah Bates - Executive Principal - Primary Lead (NPQH)
Sarah is the Executive Principal leading Primary phase schools at Central Region Schools Trust (CRST). She has a wealth of experience in Primary education and school improvement with the last twenty years working in a range of leadership positions. After a successful career as a headteacher and an executive headteacher, she has led schools from special measures to outstanding. Sarah has worked in several Multi Academy Trusts in a range of school improvement roles before joining CRST in May 2022. She has worked as a National Leader for Education and an approved Pupil Premium reviewer, in these roles she has worked with schools across the country. Sarah is passionate about making a difference to the lives of children through the development of exceptional schools. She has a wealth of experience in developing strong leadership teams, high quality teaching and learning and positive outcomes for children.
Matthew Purslow – Trust Lead CPLRD (NPQLTD)
Matthew is a specialist leader of education, with a wealth of experience in leading the delivery, management, and evaluation of a comprehensive and effective CPD package demonstrating a real impact on student outcomes and stakeholder commitment as well as the management and development of a coherent Teaching School brand. Matthew is currently Assistant Headteacher within the Central Schools Trust at Church Hill Middle School; he has been rated by Ofsted as an outstanding practitioner; further, he has a Post Graduate Diploma in Leadership, Management & Coaching (Masters Level) as well as having facilitate don multiple middle and senior leadership coaching and development programmes. Prior to becoming the trust lead for professional learning, research, and development across 11 schools, Matthew was the Director of the RSAA Teaching School for four years where his specialisms have focused on the induction and mentoring of Initial Teacher Training, School Direct colleagues, and the implementation of effective ECT, RQT, Leadership and CPD programmes.
Teresa Wilson – Trust Lead ITT (NPQLTD)
Teresa Wilson is Trust Lead for ITT and Early Careers. Teresa is an experienced teacher of Computing, and during her teaching career, has undertaken the role of ITT/NQT/RQT professional mentor, SLE and Director of ITT – Teach Central, which she leads across the Trust, she is also a Visiting Fellow for the ECF programme and NPQLTD. Teresa’s expertise lies within Professional Development, Leadership and Management, Early Career Development, Coaching and Mentoring. Teresa is passionate about supporting Early Career teachers’ developing their professional practice and wider experiences. Teresa was a founding member of the RSA Teaching School Alliance, which she co-ran for seven years prior to joining the Central Region Schools Trust as ITT lead.
Lauren Clarke - Vice Principal (NPQLL)
Lauren is a specialist leader of education, with many years of experience in middle leadership. She is a Vice Principal at Holyhead School in Birmingham where she plays a key role in the implementation of Teacher Development and Quality of Education. She previously led a successful Humanities faculty and is a co-design lead for RE within Central Regions Trust. Lauren is a Visiting Fellow who facilitates on the NPQLL. At Holyhead, she also leads on whole school reading, where reading interventions for the bottom 20% have shown outstanding results. She has a passion for the development of reading, oracy and literacy within the classroom and building a love of reading for all.
Jenny Campbell – Vice Principal - NPQSL Facilitator
Jenny is a specialist leader of education, with experience in supporting middle leaders to help drive school improvement. She is a Vice Principal at Holyhead School in Birmingham where she plays a key role in determining school improvement priorities including staff professional development. She previously led a successful Science Department with outstanding outcomes across KS4 and KS5 and is a well-respected practitioner. Jenny is a Visiting Fellow who facilitates on the NPQLTD. She leads on Pupil Premium at Holyhead and is passionate about supporting teachers to improve their professional practice to ensure the most vulnerable students benefit from receiving expert teaching.
Jane Lloyd – Principal (NPQLBC)
Jane is a Principal at Lickhill Primary School in Stourport. Jane has a wealth of knowledge from her many roles in education including the importance of inclusivity, the role the arts play in education, accessibility to the curriculum and in developing whole school approaches and cultures which link to mental health and well-being. She has been an art AST (advanced Skills Teacher), delivering across the Worcestershire county; a SENDCo, developing rapid and sustainable change of systems and responsibilities; a Thrive practitioner involved in the pilot of thrive in Worcestershire; a Deputy Head, developing behaviour models, policies, and approaches. As a Principal, Jane has had to develop whole school approaches and build subject leadership. Jane is an advocate of the natural world and the singular role nature and outdoor learning have on behaviour and child development.
Joss McLeod – Trust Reading Lead (NPQLL)
Joss is currently reading lead across CRST, having a specialist background in dyslexia and interest in developing reading. As curriculum lead at Lickhill Primary School, she oversees the development of teaching, the curriculum content and supports subjects leads. She is passionate about using reliable methods to quality assure the curriculum, such as Pupil Book Study. In addition, she has lead science, History, Geography and RE at different times in her careers, which has been in middle and primary schools. Joss is hub lead for the science subject leaders for Heybridge Teaching School.

Physics Enhancement Courses (KS3/4)
Do you want to improve your subject knowledge, practical skills, pedagogy & confidence in the classroom? The Ogden Trust is running FREE Subject Knowledge for Physics Teaching (SKPT) CPD with modules starting in October.
Each SKPT module is led by a subject specialist and involves up to 20 hours of learning spread over eight weeks. The CPD includes face-to-face sessions, online tutorials and one to two hours of independent learning each week. A £200 bursary will be available to schools (subject to conditions) on successful completion of a module

SLEs
Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) are outstanding middle & senior leaders who have the skills to support individuals or teams in similar positions in other schools. They understand what outstanding leadership practice in their area of expertise looks like and are skilled in helping other leaders to achieve it in their own context. The SLE role was created to help raise standards and improve the quality of school leadership through school-to-school support and peer-to-peer learning. This designation recognises the important role that senior and middle leaders play in improving schools and outcomes for children.
